The St Michaels Hotel has unveiled its new, state-of-the-art health club which offers people the chance to keep fit in one of the largest gyms in the county, and also enjoy pampering sessions at its new spa facilities.

With over £6million invested in the redevelopment of the resort off Cliff Road, the new 1,200sq metre health club is the first part of the overall scheme to be completed. As well as the gym, it houses three studios offering state of the art fitness, an indoor pool, health and wellbeing space and more activities than any other.

Owner Nigel Carpenter said: “The ability to have wellbeing on your terms, in a state of the art facility that brings both variety and flexibility is key to today’s audience. People want a club that matches their lifestyle and agenda and to not be pigeon-holed into a limited number of disciplines.

“We have invested massively in the transformational redevelopment of the St Michaels Health Club to make something really stand-out for Falmouth locals and visitors to Cornwall. The club is purposefully like no other in the region, the vision was to extend our hand of hospitality and create a huge modern health space with the best of the best when it comes to the people, the equipment and the space we use. We are excited to welcome new and old members.”

The gym boasts ‘best in class’ equipment. The flexible space includes an indoor track and outdoor fitness terrace with expert personal trainers available for workouts, health advice and rehabilitation. Workouts are taken beyond the boundaries of the gym into St Michaels' gardens, the club tennis courts and also taking advantage of the Gyllyngvase Beach location.

The three dedicated studios will offer over 75 instructor-led classes each week as well as virtual classes that allow members to run their workouts at a time to suit them. There is an 16 bike spin studio, specialist gig rowing studio embracing one of the most popular sports in the West Country, and fitness studio, with classes ranging from sunrise yoga, to Pilates, body pump, high octane boxing and a range of Les Mills branded workouts.

The original 17m indoor pool has been transformed and will offer swimming lessons, which will incorporate learning to swim in open water, another first for a gym in Cornwall.

The contemporary design incorporates walls of galvanized steel, a nod to the dockside location. There are chill out areas where people can enjoy the social side of going to the gym.

Mr Carpenter added: “Whilst we haven’t spared the luxury and attention to detail anywhere, our range of membership prices remain extraordinary value for money, people can tailor their experience to their needs choosing whatever package fits their needs.”

The St Michaels Spa offers four dedicated treatments rooms within the health club. The extensive spa menu of massage, face, body and beauty therapies, are enhanced by a new partnership with the world leading Elemis brand.

The health club is part of a £6million investment. Later this year 32 new bedrooms and suites will be opened as well as a new resort-style guest arrival experience, refurbished restaurant and bar, a ten treatment room destination spa, with hydrotherapy pool, hammam and spa café.
