St Keverne Band is preparing for a busy few days of fundraising events starting this Sunday.

Kicking off the trio of summer fundraisers will be the band’s now annual Proms concert at the Fat Apples Cafe near Porthallow on Sunday at 7pm.

This year the band will be joined by soprano Cheryl Brendish, with Kevin Thomas from Radio Cornwall compere for the evening.

Tickets are available from St Keverne Stores and Fat Apples. Audience members are encouraged to take their own picnic and drinks from 6pm.

The following Sunday, July 30, the senior and youth bands will be joined by St Stythians Band at St Keverne Band Room for their annual band Sunday, beginning at 7pm.

Both these events lead up to the main fundraising event on the band’s calendar, the famous St Keverne Ox Roast, which takes place in the village square on Wednesday, August 2 from noon until dusk.

There will be entertainment all day, with stalls, raffles, music and refreshments, plus the chance to grab a slice of beef roasted slowly over an open log fire for more than six hours. Butchers from Retallack’s will parade into the square with the band at 2.30pm and the first slices will then be auctioned in aid of band funds at 3pm.
