Constantine Annual Garden Society Summer Show was everything a small village show should be with plenty of exhibits, the brass band playing, ice cream, cream teas and people desperate to know who the winners were.

Fran Down had been invited to give out the prizes. Mrs Down, along with her husband Dougie, are lifelong, supporters of Constantine Brass and has given enormous amounts of time and energy over the years to making sure the annual Constantine Brass on Grass, is a success.

The brass band concert immediately followed the show, sharing the same marquee. Mrs Down said: "It was an absolute pleasure to be invited to the show and thought the standard of all classes was excellent.” She even picked up a cup herself for her ‘most attractive’ front garden.

The show has been hailed another success, even though entries were a bit down on the adult home produce section, although there was tough competition in the ‘men only’ Cornish fruit loaf class with first prize and best exhibit in show going to Peter Binns.

The children’s entries were particularly good. The judge Mrs L Hanley said: “There were some exceptional entries which were reflected in the awards. With the children’s section, one wants to reward as many as possible, but life is a competition, so there has to be a winner, but just entering is important too. Thank you for the privilege of seeing such amazing creativity and imagination and thank you teachers for the brilliant class entries.”
