There were plenty of fun and games for the whole family when the Friends of Penryn Primary Academy staged their annual summer fair.

"The event was incredibly busy which was great to see," said Helena Truan, who sits on the Friends' committee.

One of the big attractions for the children was the chance to splat a staff member with wet sponges, with teaching assistant Tom Blewitt being the person who had volunteered to get very wet.

A crew from Falmouth Fire Station attended and gave children the chance to spray hoses and climb onboard the fire engine. They also organised a game of tug of war between boys and girls and another between the Friends' committee and Penryn RFC under 16s - which saw victory for the ladies of the committee.

The cast of the school's production of Oliver gave performances during the afternoon, singing songs from the popular show and children from Mrs Chan's class sold produce from their own craft stall.

By the end of the event £2,743.64 had been for the Friends of Penryn Primary Academy. This will be shared out between year groups to go towards helping to pay for future school trips, to lighten the burden on parents. The Friends are also in the progress of fundraising for new play equipment at the junior site.
