Young visitors can join the crew of HMS Adventure this summer in the Awesome Adventurers Play Zone, at the Maritime Museum in Falmouth, alongside six weeks of live performance and storytelling.

Inspired by heroic voyages of exploration like Captain Bligh’s HMS Bounty, children can travel back to 1799 and join the crew of HMS Adventure as they chart the dangerous Pacific Ocean. The ship has just dropped anchor off a deserted island and the explorers have volunteered to explore the island with the scientists. Who will you be? The midshipman – with responsibility and a smart uniform, the cook- keeping the crew well fed, the ordinary sailor – a hard-working crew member, or the botanist, out to discover new plants, animals and specimens to bring home.

There will also be live performance, storytelling and new activities on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 11.30am and 2pm.

Squash Box Theatre brings The Sea Show, a quirky and hilarious mix of puppet show, natural history and comedy cabaret, to the museum pm August 29 and 31.

Rattlebox Theatre will perform Tales of Awesome Adventures, a storytelling and puppet show creating a little magic and a lot of laughter, on July 25 and 27, and August 15 and 17, and will also play the Beouwolf Puppet Show on August 1 and 22.

And Thorsday returns to the museum this summer, where visitors can join Seawolves, a tame band of Vikings, and discover what Viking combat was really like.

The museum will also be holding a series of make and take sessions daily from 12pm to 3.30 pm for visitors to make the things you will need for their own awesome adventure: A compass badge to find your way home, a sword or flintlock pistol to fight off dangerous animals or fearsome pirates, or a newly discovered tropical bird to wear on your shoulder.
