The culmination of 15 years behind a lens and ten years in front of a class has resulted in Nicholas Hughes releasing his first ever fine art photography book, which is to be published through Macmillan and distributed by GOST.

To help fund the publishing Nicholas, tutor for the photography extended diploma at Truro College, has set up a Kickstarter campaign. With a goal of £10,000, it is fantastic to see that the total has already surpassed the three quarters marker, with the end now insight.

The book itself, named Nowhere Far, features a variety of locations across England and Wales with each shot taken within walking distance of Nicholas’ home. Each series is formed over a period of two or three years and focuses on the changing patterns of nature during this time. Each shot is captured on large format film before being printed by hand in a colour darkroom.

“Whilst the work has been seen on exhibit throughout the world and made its way into important public collections – it has always been my intention to produce a book that shares my visual ideas,” said Nicholas. In addition to the photographs, a foreword by Brett Rogers and essays by Martin Barnes and Jay Griffiths will add to Nicholas’ book, creating an in depth look into his work.

To accompany the book’s release, which is set for the end of this year, Nicholas has arranged a book launch at Falmouth Art Gallery in December that will be complemented by an exhibition of his work.
