The total raised so far for Falmouth RNLI's 150th anniversary appeal now stands at £36,910.65 thanks to a number of fundraising events - large and small.

One of the most recent donations to the appeal came from Vince Curtis, deputy chair for Cornwall CAMRA and one of the organisers of the Falmouth Beer Festival, who held his 60th birthday party at the Old Ale House in Truro.

Vince had asked his family and friends to make donations to the 150 appeal rather buy him presents. Miss Betty Stogs also made an appearance at the party and collected £337.35 in her bucket. Additionally, Skinners Brewery used proceeds from the sale of Sarah Hughes Dark Ruby Mild to contribute a further £150 to the appeal, bringing the total raised at Vince's party to £487.35.

Another bonus to come from the party is that other members of CAMRA who had an impromptu meeting have agreed that the 150 appeal will be the charity of choice for this year's Falmouth Beer Festival. This will include having the appeal mentioned on all the festival beer glasses.

The appeal total also includes a significant donation from last month's Castle to Castle Swim, although there is still more money to come from this. The appeal will be boosted further once the proceeds of the Falmouth International Shanty Festival are handed over.

The Falmouth RNLI appeal aims to raise £100,000 towards the total cost of alterations and upgrades to the lifeboat station in Tinner's Walk. These improvements are needed to ensure the station is ready to receive the new, faster and bigger Atlantic 85 lifeboat in two years. The new lifeboat will replace the current Atlantic 75 lifeboat Eve Pank when she reaches the end of her operational life and will work alongside the station’s all-weather Severn class lifeboat Richard Cox
