A teenager from The Lizard has become so concerned about the "dangerous parking" of cars leading to the village that he decided to highlight the problems himself.

James Thirlaway-Price, 14, took a number of photos of cars abandoned on roads, after seeing a bus unable to access one road due to the volume of vehicles.

He has now posted them to social media, prompting a huge reaction from other residents.

The problem is largely being blamed on visitors wanting to visit nearby Kynance.

James claimed: "The bad parking is due to the Kynance car park being full. They are parking in the recycling bank layby and all down Cross Common, a single track road into the back of the village. Buses and lorries have been unable to use the road; Beacon Terrace has also been chock a block with cars parking badly near junctions.

"Many places around the village have seen examples of dangerous parking. Something needs to be done before an accident is caused."

Others were quick to agree that parked cars were becoming an increasing problem.

However, the news that an unknown person had allegedly written "no parking" on three of the cars in marker pen has been condemned, with the police visiting to investigate it as vandalism.

A spokesperson for the National Trust, which manages the car park at Kynance, said: "For the second year running, we are experiencing very high visitor numbers to Kynance Cove car park, which on sunny days is becoming filled to capacity by late morning. Last year, visitor numbers all over Cornwall were higher than previous years and the increase at Kynance was in excess of that experienced in other places. Whilst the Trust has not actively advertised Kynance it remains a popular beach and is often promoted by others.

"Last year we trialled managing this with a neighbour opening a nearby field for parking off the road that leads to Kynance. However, unhindered access down the road led to severe congestion and people started parking their cars on the road and in gateways and on more than one occasion emergency vehicles were prevented from swiftly accessing the cove. In addition, more and more people at Kynance put additional pressure on the toilets, sewage treatment systems and on people’s enjoyment of the beach.

"Therefore this year we decided that when the car park is full we will close the road to vehicles to allow easy access for emergency services if required. We are also adding additional staff to the car park, placed better signage to warn people, created a place for people to turn their cars, a leaflet to show where else people can go for their day out and notices on our and Visit Cornwall’s website.

"We are doing everything we can to prevent impact on the local community and will continue conversations with the village to help during these busy months."
