Falmouth's mayor and mayoress, Grenville and June Chappel, hosted a coffee morning in the council chambers last Wednesday to raise money for the town's twinning association.

A surprising number of people dodged the Red Arrows day traffic and inclement early weather to help raise some much needed funds.

Coffee, juice and a variety of cakes were laid on by the mayor and served with by Val Rogers, the mayor’s secretary. There was also the obligatory raffle to raise extra cash. The raffle prize was a litre of gin donated by Pamela Wentzell. This was won by Councillor Marcella Martin, who is the newly appointed councillor with responsibility for town twinning.

During the morning, Mr Chappel presented a Falmouth tie to Herr Rolf Wille and a town lapel badge to his wife Gudrun. Rolf and Gudrun are members of the Rotenburg twinning association who are on a private visit to Cornwall.

The morning's fundraising will go towards making next summer’s visit of Falmouth's twin Rotenburg Wümme, go with a swing. It will be a very special visit as it will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the two towns' friendship.
