A day of rockpooling, diving and marine discovery is taking place at Porthkerris near St Keverne on Thursday to celebrate the area's Marine Conservation Zone.

The Marvellous Manacles Marine Day gives families and wildlife enthusiasts the chance to discover the rare and protected species the water is home to.

Between 10am and noon there will be a shore dive for Cornwall Wildlife Trust Shoresearch volunteers, followed by a marine creature 'show and tell' for all the family at noon with marine biologist Matt Slater.

There is then the chance to explore yourself on a rockpool ramble at low tide between 1pm and 3pm, with a possible Dive Against Debris at 5.30pm.

There will also be free diving try out sessions with Porkerris Divers and free dive sessions with Aquacity Freediving all day, plus an underwater treasure hunt with Fourth Element and Fathoms Free, and the chance to contribute to a piece of art for Porthkerris Divers to keep, made out of the net and rope Fathoms Free have collected.

Visitors can also find out more about the Cornwall Against Dean Super Quarry campaign.

People are asked to wear sensible rockpooling shoes and clothing, sunscreen and take water; nets are not allowed.
