A new gift shop has opened in Helston in a bid to offer greater choice to customers.

Head Rush Gifts can be found in Coinagehall Street, in the shop below well-established hair salon Head Rush owned by Becky Cross.

The associated gift shop is now being run by her mother, Paula Ferguson, who lives in Helston and is a familiar face in the surrounding area having worked at the Halzephron Inn at Gunwalloe for more than 20 years.

However, she has decided to swap pulling pints for pricing up items in a bid to spend more time with her family, including her eight grandchildren.

Paula said: "This gives me more evenings and weekends with family.

"I'm trying to cater for all ages and all wallet sizes, and to give something different to the chain store style of shop - as well as keep another shop open in the town."

The shop, which is currently open from 10.30am every Monday to Saturday, includes goods from many local stockists, with a whole range of Cornish-themed cards and gifts.

It sells everything from cushions and bags, to novelty items and toiletries. There is also a range of budget sweets for younger visitors.

"There will be rolling stock, depending on what is available, what is requested and fitting with current fashions," added Paula.
