The penultimate pair of 2017 #LoveFalmouth photography competition winners have been announced.

Winner Chris Fletcher- Chris was certainty in the right place at the right time for this vivid photograph of the Falmouth Week fireworks overlooking Falmouth docks and judges loved Stuart Wilkes iconic shot of Pendennis headland.

The six-month long competition is now almost complete, and has seen some wonderful photographs of activities and places around Falmouth, including images of the RAF Red Arrows display, Falmouth Week sailing, stunning landscapes, and family holidays. Over 50 quality submissions were received, giving the judging team a difficult time in choosing the winners! Photographs were judged on their subject matter, composition and relevance to the theme.

This is the second year of the #LoveFalmouth photography competition organised by the Falmouth BID. The 2016 campaign saw an incredible 8oo photographs submitted. An exhibition of the winning shots took place at the end of last year in The Poly and thanks to an offer by M&S Falmouth, many of those shots are currently on display in their café on Market Street.

This year the BID is once again working alongside its partners 20/20 and the Falmouth Packet and hope to use the competition to highlight all that makes Falmouth such a special place to live in, visit and experience. Each month between April and September 2017, two images are chosen from the wide range of photographs uploaded to Falmouth’s official Facebook, Twitter and Instagram channels with the hashtag #LoveFalmouth and the additional hashtag theme for the month.

These are:

April - #Adventure

May - #Enjoy

June - #Explore

July - #Summer

August - #Community

September - #Culture

The monthly winners not only receive a fantastic prize kindly donated by our team of local sponsors, but will represent a month in the first official #LoveFalmouth calendar, which will go on sale at retail outlets in the town in time for Christmas 2017.

August’s Prize was sponsored by M&S Falmouth, who are presenting our lucky winners with £60 worth of vouchers redeemable both in store and online.

As one of the UK’s leading retailers, M&S sells stylish, high quality, great value clothing and home products, as well as outstanding quality food, responsibly sourced from around 2,000 suppliers globally.

Richard Wilcox, the Falmouth BID Manager said: “The competition has gone from strength to strength, and each new round of entries continues to surprise us. I would like to thank 20/20, The Falmouth Packet, our prize partners and charity partner Cornwall Hospice Care for helping support the idea. This is once again another good example of businesses working alongside the BID to ensure that exciting projects can take place in our special, award-winning town. The judging has been extremely tough but the photographs really do showcase the diversity of the Falmouth landscape and all from very personal perspectives.”

Describing how he took his picture Chris Fletcher said:

“I took this image as I stood next to the railings that overlook Falmouth docks. This I feel, is a terrific position to capture the colour and drama of firework displays in Falmouth, especially when you add in the shapes of the illuminated cranes in the foreground. This town means so much to me and I love living and working here. I feel so lucky to be able to call Falmouth my home.”

Stuart's picture was taken through the morning mist by drone. He said: “Having a commercial licence to fly drones has enabled me to work all over the UK, but I still feel that my home town has some of the best coastline in the country. I have been lucky enough to photograph the beautiful Falmouth peninsula many times and this sunrise image is my personal favourite. I hope people like it as much as I do.”

The competition is now open for September’s theme, #Culture.
