The sounds of a fundraising concert heralded the opening of a new performance space which has been created at King Charles the Martyr Church in Falmouth.

The new area was made by removing three rows of pews at the parish church, on both sides at the front of the nave.

Last Saturday a group of brass musicians were at the church to perform a concert to help raise funds for the Cornwall Music Service Trust. which works in schools in Cornwall to enable young people to learn how to play musical instruments.

The group was led by Sarah Munns and Gareth Churcher with other tutors from the CMST.

The parish priest, Reverend Stephen Tudgey, said: "We are delighted with this new performance area in the Church. Musicians have commented that this helps with their performances.

"We have regular Saturday concerts in the Church from 12 noon with some of the most talented musicians in Cornwall performing. The concerts have raised funds for Cornwall Music Service Trust and for the local church."

The church has also started running an Alpha Course programme, working with All Saints Church and Budock Parish Church.
