There will be something of a nautical theme when Falmouth receives a visit from royalty next week.

Sophie, Countess of Wessex, is due to be in the town on Tuesday, as part of a wider visit to the county.

She will first visit Falmouth Coastguard Station, where she will receive a tour of the facilities and hear about the work carried out there, including how staff direct operations that save the lives of people at sea and around the coast.

The countess will get to meet some of the staff and volunteers, who have put their own lives on the line to rescue others.

Her brief visit to the town will then continue with a trip to the Harbour Lights fish and chip shop.

It is likely that the countess will be offered a taste of the award-winning food produced at the restaurant and takeaway, which earlier in the summer was named independent restaurant of the year at the National Fish and Chip Awards 2017.
