Children’s Hospice South West's (CHSW) Moonlight Memory Walk is returning to Falmouth on September 30 and the charity's fundraising team explain how important the event is, both for the community who take part and the families that benefit.

The Moonlight Memory Walk is a ladies only, five mile sponsored, night time walk around Falmouth and proves popular with women from the town as well as further afield each year.

Last year the event raised over £30,000 for the children’s charity which needs over £3million a year to run its Little Harbour children’s hospice in St Austell, one of its three children's hospices in the south west.

Kiley Pearce, events fundraiser for CHSW, said: "The atmosphere at the Moonlight Memory Walk is very different to the other large fundraising events that we run throughout the year. People take part in the walk because it is a way that they can remember their loved ones whilst also helping to support the care we offer at Children's Hospice South West for local children and families.

"Little Harbour costs £3million a year to run so events like this are vital in terms of us raising those funds and safeguarding our service for the future."

Little Harbour is now supporting over 100 life-limited children and their families from across Cornwall and Plymouth, offering short breaks, respite, palliative care as well as end of life care and bereavement support. The charity is a lifeline to those families many of whom feel isolated and overwhelmed.

One family that visit Little Harbour regularly for short breaks describe how the hospice helps them: “The support we get from Little Harbour is absolutely fantastic and I really don’t know what we’d do without them.”

Any ladies aged 14 and over can take part in this girls' night out with a difference, so why not make a date with friends, family or colleagues?
