Penzance Community Fire Station hosted 12 of the firefighters from London Fire Brigade (LFB) who attend the Grenfell Tower disaster back June.

The LFB group were with Penzance crews for three days and took part in a range of activities organised by the fire station with the help and generosity of local businesses and organisations.

The aim of the trip was to boost wellbeing and show support and respect not only from the Cornwall Fire, Rescue and Community Safety (CFRCS) Service but from Cornwall as a whole. Fire officers Michelle and Mark Grenfell, with support for the crew and local businesses, created a three day Cornish break for the LFB firefighters.

The itinerary included: a trip out on with the Penlee Lifeboat, a surfing lesson with the St Ives Surf School, coasteering with Kernow Coasteering, a barbecue hosted by the Bath Inn at Penzance where others from across the fire service joined in to meet the LFB group, a fun challenge at the Cornwall Escape Rooms and a trip across the causeway to St Michaels Mount and a tour of the castle.

Area manager Kathryn Billing, said: "We would like to thank our 999 family from Blue Watch North Kensington for coming down and spending time with us in our beautiful county. It’s a known fact the outdoors and keeping yourself active benefit your mental health and wellbeing. Our service was proud to be involved in such a humbling occasion, you just can’t explain experiences like this.

"I would like to thank the generosity and support from so many that have allowed us to make memories which we will never forget. Special thanks to Michelle and Mark fire officers from Penzance who were instrumental in making this happen. We hope to extend our welcome to other crews from London in the future.’

Fundraising took place earlier in the month when Penzance crews hosted and took part in a ladder climb raising £447 to go to the Grenfell firefighters.
