It is very much a family affair for Helston Theatre Company as they put the final touches to their production of Oklahoma! that begins next week.

There will be three generations on the stage for the Blabers, with grandfather Paul playing the role of Andrew Carnes, his son Ben playing Ali Hakim and his granddaughter Millie in the ensemble, along with a cameo role as childhood Laurey.

Paul, who is also the company’s chairman, said: “It is really special for all three of us to be taking part in the same show. This is Millie’s first full-length musical and she is really enjoying herself.

“To have my son and granddaughter joining me in this show means the world.”

Also joining the Blabers are Gillian and Stephanie Rosewarne. Stephanie will be playing the lead role of Laurey, and while her mum will be in the ensemble for this show, it was in the early 1990s that Gillian also played Laurey in the very same Epworth Hall where the 2017 reworking will be staged.

Stephanie said: “I am thrilled to be following in my mother’s footsteps, especially as I am wearing the same stripey apron that mum wore when I was just a toddler.”

Adding some mystery, the cast has promised that this production will be performed with a special twist for the first time ever in the Epworth Hall.

Oklahoma! runs nightly from this Monday until Saturday, October 21, with an additional matinee on the final day.
