People with a local connection to Goonhavern, just outside Truro are able to bid on new Cornwall Council homes for rent.

The 23 new homes at Marshfield Close are available for bidding online at cornwallhousing.org.uk/homechoice, from today, Thursday. Built by Kier and managed by Cornwall Housing, the homes were funded by Cornwall Council as part of its new build programme, which aims to see 1,000 council homes delivered over four years across Cornwall.

The 23 new homes provide a mix of accommodation options for single people through to families and include: four, one bedroom flats; ten, two bedroom houses; six, three bedroom houses (maximum five people); two, three bedroom houses ( maximum six people) and one, four bedroom house.

Cornwall Housing’s director of operations Nick Cross said: "We are really pleased that these 23 new homes will soon be ready, and ahead of schedule, for the first tenants to move in and call home. A lot of work has gone into the design and build, with energy efficiency one of the key considerations to help tackle the issue of fuel poverty.”

Andrew Mitchell, Cornwall Council’s cabinet member for homes, added: “These new homes are another positive example of Cornwall Council and Cornwall Housing working together to build and acquire quality homes for the people of Cornwall.

“There is a high demand for social housing across the Cornwall and I am pleased that these new homes will go some way in providing affordable accommodation for those with a local connection to the area.”

The new street name was chosen from a number of suggestions submitted by the public. Construction on the new homes began in January and the project has a completion date for the first week in December although it is expected the homes will now be ready two weeks ahead of schedule.
