Pendennis Brass have appointed Kevin Ackford as their new musical director and are now hoping to recruit some new players.

Kevin was born in Launceston in 1962 and started his playing career at the age of six. He became a member of the Cornwall Youth Band and progressed to the national youth band of Great Britain. He composed the theme tune to BBC Radio's Sounds of Brass along with other creations.

He also conducts the St Minver Silver Band, and has recently become one of the tutors to the Cornwall Youth Band.

The band performed at Mawnan Memorial Hall last week when they played through a varied and entertaining selection of classic brass band pieces as well as modern popular classics by The Rolling Stones and David Bowie.

Band chairman Glyn Thomas is delighted with Kevin`s appointment, but is now keen to make some other appointments. “We are always on the look out for any new players, especially euphonium and trombone players," said. "They are guaranteed a very warm welcome.”

Anyone interested and wanting to learn more should call Kevin on 07866 510297.

Pendennis Brass will be making a number of appearances over the next couple of months. These include leading the Remembrance Parade in Penryn Sunday, November 12; the RNLI Concert at Falmouth Methodist Church on Sunday, December 3; Mylor Christmas lights switch on on December 4
