Falmouth fish and chip shop owner and all round daredevil, Helen Kurdyla is about to embark on her latest madcap idea to raise money for charity.

After previously jumping from a plane in a tandem skydive, this time Helen plans to keep her feet firmly planted on the plane albeit on its wings. The 50-year-old will be taking to the skies above Cirencester next Wednesday to tick off another item on her bucket list - a wing walk.

"It is something I've wanted to do for 18 months now, but I didn't want to do it on my own," said Helen. "So, now I have found that someone, I'm quite happy to do it." She will be accompanied by Andrew Lee from Devoran, who is as keen as she is to have a go.

"I am quite looking forward to it," added Helen. "I'm not nervous at all but people do think I'm crackers."

Helen is married to Dominic and the pair run the the Gem Fish Bar in Quarry Hill. They have two daughters, Gabrielle, 23, and Adrienne, 20, who are now used to their mother's hair-raising antics.

Helen's previous achievements include the skydive, an abseil, zip wire and she has run the London marathon. With next week's wing walk she hopes to raise £1,500 for the Catholic Agency For Overseas Development (CAFOD).

So far she has raised about £170 and anyone who'd like to support her and make a donation should go to

Once Helen, who is actually frightened of heights, has the wing walk under her belt, she will turn her thoughts to her next challenge. "I have got a few more things planned after this one, including a paraglide," she said. "Doing something new and something different on a daily basis keeps you young and keeps your heart young."
