Several members of the 50 Plus Social and Leisure Group, who meet at the Dracaena Centre on a weekly basis, were taken on an "awe-inspiring" trip to Cornwall's children's hospice last week.

The group was given a guided tour of Little Harbour in St Austell and told of the services the facility provides to families across the county. Members also proudly handed over a cheque for £100 to the Children's Hospice South West. The money had been raised by the group, with the help of the Summer Wine band, who performed at the Dracaena Centre earlier this year.

On returning from the trip, group member Sheila Rollison said: "This was a totally awe-inspiring trip for our group. One that I will never forget."

The 50 Plus Leisure and Social Club is open to people who like to meet new people, make new friends and try something new. Members can try their hand at a mix of accessible sports activities, including bowls, boccia, new age kurling, badminton and more.

The club also welcomes guest speakers, hosts creative workshops for members to "get stuck into" and even provides a light snack for all it members to finish off the session.

The group is described as "very relaxed, informal and friendly." It meets every Monday, apart from bank holidays, from 1pm until 3.30pm and costs just £1 a week. Anyone interested in joining is invited to pop along to see what it's all about.
