Navy wives and girlfriends from RNAS Culdrose will be performing at Truro Cathedral in just under four weeks’ time as part of a national Military Wives Choirs tour.

The Home for Christmas tour is visiting some of the UK’s best cathedrals and the Cornwall leg will feature the county’s only branch of the international network, the Culdrose Military Wives Choir.

The concert on Sunday, December 3 will celebrate women in the military community who understand just how difficult this time of year can be, giving them the chance to stand stronger together and express themselves through song.

Guests can expect to hear plenty of festive favourites as well as songs from the Military Wives Choirs’ 2016 album Home for Christmas.

The 50-strong choir performing on the Truro leg is made up of wives and partners of armed forces personnel, along with women from the wider military community, and is based at RNAS Culdrose in Helston.

Hannah Dutchak, chair of Culdrose Military Wives Choir, said: “Military families are used to having our loved ones away at Christmas, and it can be tough, especially for our children. What you find in our community is a special strength during these times, a quiet understanding that our country's needs come first and an appreciation that your neighbour understands exactly what you're going through. Being part of a choir is incredibly comforting, they’re like my second family.

“We’re all really excited that Cornwall has been included in this year's tour. It will be our first opportunity to sing in Truro Cathedral, a renowned venue for choral singing, especially at Christmas time. We’ve been working really hard to perfect everyone’s favourite Christmas songs so we hope that plenty of Cornwall's residents can come out and join us for what should be a really special evening.”

Individual tickets are now available for £27.50 and are expected to sell out fast. Visit ticketmaster.co.uk/militarywiveschoirs to book.
