Friday night went with a bang in St Keverne when a fireworks display returned to the village for the first time in many years.

Organised and hosted by the Three Tuns pub, the event raised more than £700 for St Keverne’s Christmas lights.

Hundreds of people gathered in the field behind the pub to watch the display, where a bonfire was also lit and stalls were set up by local businesses selling cupcakes, doughnuts, cards and toys, with the lights committee running two raffles and ‘guess the number of sweets’ game.

Michael Williams from Proper Job Disco gave his time for free to provide the PA system and music before and during the fireworks and St Keverne Fire Station were on hand to oversee the proceedings and put out the bonfire at the end of the night.

Landlord Matt Ferguson said: “A huge thank you to everyone who came out to support our fireworks and bonfire event, the community really did us proud.

“We could not have put on this event without our amazing staff and locals offering their support and skills both in the run up and on the night, as volunteer marshals, collecting entrance money, donating wood and lighting, building the bonfire and generally just being there when needed.

“A particular mention to Mike and Su Woodyer and Phil Ferguson for their expertise in setting off the fireworks.”

He also thanked Coastline Housing and St Keverne Parish Council for their grant funding, which meant £1,000 worth of fireworks were let off and the entire entrance fees could be given to the charity.

Matt added: “We’d love to make this an annual event, in aid of a different charity each year, so watch out for fundraising events over the coming months to help cover the costs.”
