The Poly is hosting a free exhibition and talk next week giving people the chance to see examples from its archive collections and find out what life was like in Falmouth 100 years ago.

The exhibition, which will be open from 10am to 7pm daily from next Tuesday until Saturday, November 14 to 18, has been researched by volunteers from the Falmouth History Archive and covers a wide range of subjects from what was happening at the docks and home front activities in the town to local organisations and entertainment in November 1917.

For those who want to know more, the volunteer researchers will be hosting a talk at 7.45pm on Tuesday with tickets priced at just £6/£5 concessions. Tickets can be booked online at thepoly.org or in person at The Poly box office in Church Street.

Staff and volunteers are keen to extend heritage activities at The Poly and are busy putting plans in place for next year to include a year-long programme of WWI focussed activities and events – subject to funding – as well as more of their ever popular local history talks.

CEO Judith Hann said: “We are very fortunate to have significant archive collections relating to Falmouth and our own historic organisation in our early 19th century building. Our volunteers do a great job and we are keen to build on this to share and celebrate our heritage with a wider audience.”

Falmouth History Archive is open to the public every Tuesday and Thursday morning. For further information and upcoming events see Facebook @FalmouthHistoryArchive.
