The much-loved family Christmas event which has been taking place in Truro for many years and had previously organised by Mallet’s Home Hardware, has now been handed to Truro BID and Truro City Council.

Alun Jones, Truro BID manager, said: “We would like to thank the team at Mallet’s for their continued investment in the Christmas event line-up for Truro. Their efforts to establish this family event have secured this as a must-see in Truro’s calendar.

“Together with the support from the city council and the Visit Truro team we are looking forward to growing the procession with more festive fun.”

Roger Gazzard, clerk for Truro City Council, describes the partnership as “both natural and exciting,” adding: “Through the expansion of the Visit Truro remit, the council are contributing a greater focus to the marketing and promotion of Truro. Christmas is Truro’s ‘golden hour’ and working in partnership with the BID is a great step forward in our aim to deliver high quality, coordinated events across the city centre.”

The procession will take place on Wednesday, November 29, and marks the start of the late night shopping Wednesdays. Santa and his real reindeer will be in the pen on Victoria Square from 6pm. The procession, which starts at 6.45pm led by Camborne Youth band, will parade through the city’s streets continuing the same route as previous years.

New supporters for 2017 are Rowe’s Cornish Bakers, who will be creating a special Santa Stop outside the bakery on Lemon Quay, where the procession will pause for Christmas music and giveaways before continuing back around into the pen on Victoria Square.
