A man has died after being crushed in machinery at a recycling plant in Redruth, reported locally to be a baling machine.

Police and ambulance were called to H&S Recylcing on the Cardrew Industrial Estate at around 4pm yesterday to reports of a man trapped in a machine.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said a 23 year old man was "reported deceased at the scene," and the death was currently being treated as an accident and not suspicious.

They added that the man's next of kin had been informed, and said: "Inquiries are underway to establish the circumstances surrounding this incident.

"The HSE have been informed andpolice remain at the scene."

A spokesperson for the Health and safety Executive (HSE) said the police had "primacy" in the investigation, and added: "We are aware of the incident and are assisting the police."

A separate HSE investigation has not been launched.
