The honour of switching on Mylor's Christmas lights has been given to Sarita Perkins, who was the driving force behind the restoration of the Tremayne Hall a decade ago.

Sarita also set up the over 60s lunch club in the new community centre and this is still going strong today. With the help of her team, she has also hosted several parties in the village, including celebrations of the Queen's jubilee and her 90th birthday.

"Planning now to stand down, Sarita has been asked to switch on the lights in recognition of years of selfless and successful commitment to village life," said Terry Chapman, chairman Mylor Christmas lights committee.

Preparations are well in hand for the Christmas festivities in Mylor. Thanks to the support of the whole village, chains of lights are being strung across the main street with a range of multi coloured static motifs hung from house fronts.

The finishing touch, an impressive Christmas tree, will be raised in the Lemon Arms car park the weekend before the grand switch-on ceremony, which will take place on the evening of Monday, December 4. The main road through the village will be closed to traffic from 6.30pm to 8.30pm. Santa will be handing out treats outside the newsagents, which will be followed by the switching on and community carols around the tree before every-one retires to the Tremayne Hall for refreshments and the grand draw.
