There will be a chance to celebrate Christmas the Cornish way at Pendennis Castle in Falmouth on December 16 and 17 as English Heritage wishes everyone "Nadelik Lowen."

The Tudor castle keep will be decked out in its yuletide finery for two days of traditional fireside tales, craft, dancing, song, and uniquely Cornish festivities.

Over the weekend the castle will be transformed into a seasonal setting for Cornish music and dance. Bring your dancing shoes to join Cornwall’s early music and dance specialists Pyba, and join in a round of festive carols and song led by The Kirklands Singers and friends.

Father Christmas, in his historic green attire, will also be taking up residence in the castle keep. Bring along your Christmas list to get his special seal of approval, or write your list with him at the castle. Listen as he entertains you with his tales of folklore and Nadelik traditions and find out how Cornwall does the festive season differently.

For a spot of Christmas crafting, traditional Cornish activities will be on offer throughout the weekend. Celebrate the coming of the New Year by ‘Lighting and Chalking the Block’, try your hand at creating a ‘Christmas Bunch’ from Cornish greenery, design your own Christmas cards complete with Cornish good wishes, and make Christmas pomanders and marzipan delights – an ideal homemade gift.

Get into the festive spirit with mulled wine and mince pies served in the castle keep; and escape the hustle and bustle of the high street with a chance to pick up a unique Christmas gift in the castle shop.

“Christmas is the perfect time for a family day out at Pendennis,” said castle manager Wendy Amer. “The castle will be decked out in traditional lights and greenery and we’ll be celebrating Nadelik with traditional Cornish crafts, stories, music, and dance. We’re even expecting a visit from Father Christmas himself, which should all make for a very merry Nadelik.”
