The Lib-Dems have chosen a candidate to fight the new Falmouth and Truro constituency at the next general election and she is no stranger to the hustings.

Terrye Teverson, mother of three daughters, was chosen at a meeting during the weekend. As Terrye Jones, she fought the Falmouth and Camborne constituency twice, once narrowly losing to Seb Coe, the Tory candidate, in 1992 then narrowly against Candy Atherton, the Labour candidate, in 1997.

It was not an unexpected selection as Mrs Teverson had made it clear that she was interested in going on the political campaign trail again. In the coming months she will work alongside current MPs Matthew Taylor, who is giving up at the next general election, and Julia Goldsworthy, the Falmouth- Camborne MP, who will fight the new constituency of Camborne and Hayle next time round.

Following her selection Mrs Teverson said: "I will be fighting for everyone in Truro and Falmouth, and across Cornwall as a whole, with housing at the top of my priority list."

Brought up in Helston, where she attended Helston grammar school, her mother was a night sister at Redruth hospital, and her father was in the Royal Navy. She used to live in Breage but now lives in Tregony with her husband, Robin, a former MEP for Plymouth and Cornwall.

Mrs Teverson was first elected onto Kerrier district council in 1987 and in 1991-2 was elected chairman. She was a governor at Helston comprehensive school during the 1990s, and was also chairman of Cornwall Brook Advisory Centre for ten years, after helping to set it up in 1993.

She has continued to play a leading role in Liberal Democrat politics in Cornwall and is currently running a campaign against age discrimination in the voluntary sector.

In the Cornwall Business Awards 2007 she was voted top woman business leader of the year.
