The annual Christmas concert brought festive cheer to Falmouth School last week, with the widest age range of performers ever taking to the stage.

It was a second outing for the new theatre layout in the main hall, which made for a real concert feel. Falmouth School also welcomed local primary school students to perform for the first time.

The evening was compered by Cornwall Youth Parliament president, Will Daniell, who between performances himself kept the audience in good spirits with some topical jokes. The superb array of performers wasted no time in getting into the Christmas spirit, as the senior choir started things off with White Christmas. The guitar group put their own funky spin on some festive classics, before a dazzling flute piece from Jennifer Hudson.

Guest primary school students were up next and with some learning the piece in just six weeks, they performed Jingle Bells. The multi-talented Abiah Wyatt delivered a beautiful rendition of Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, as did the boys' choir with their version of Winter Wonderland. College students Tadhg Cullen, Josh Talbot and Millie Revell created their own quirky remix of Santa Baby, while Brooke Mitchell put her own spin on Silent Night.

There were more Christmas classics from the woodwind ensemble and lower school choir, with the brass group and jazz band also showcasing their talents. With the show winding down, there was still time for a few more acts including a much anticipated performance from the jazz band and Keyside Quartet, which included head of music Matt Fox and deputy headteacher Alex George. The audience showed their appreciation with a song of their own, closing the night with We Wish You a Merry Christmas.

Mr Fox said: “It was fantastic to see so many people here supporting the school and the students who have been great. There is so much talent at Falmouth School and nights like this just give an opportunity to highlight it."
