A student from Penryn College has made it through to the next round of the Rotary Club's Young Chef competition.

Following on from the first stage of the contest held at the college in November, the latest round saw Gabriel and Mia progress through to the next round at Cornwall College.

Gabriel and Mia joined eight other contestants from Falmouth, Camborne, Redruth and Helston Schools for what was to be a hard fought contest.

The judges were Grant Mather, head of the College Catering School, and Dale McIntosh from the Gylly Beach Café. Both Penryn students faced tough competition from the other schools. Gabriel was awarded second place with Mia coming in close behind in fourth position.

Gabriel now proceeds onto the District Round at Plymouth in January where he will be joining by 15 young chef winners from across the Devon and Cornwall.

The winner from the January heat will go on to the SW UK final at Somerset College in March and winners will then go to the UK national final in Telford.
