A grandfather from Helston has been named Coastline Housing's "involved customer of the year" for his dedication to his community.

Joe Ferguson was presented with the award out of all Coastline residents, who span from Redruth and Camborne to Helston and The Lizard, as well as Truro, St Ives and event Padstow and Wadebridge.

Mr Ferguson, who lives with his wife Berta and has six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, is involved in every meeting relating to Coastline properties in his area and on a number of committees, including one that organises "away days" for residents. He is also involved in helping choose contractors and materials for repairs and new builds.

He received this year's Customers At The Heart award for involvement during a ceremony held at Heartlands in Pool.

The housing association said the awards recognised people who had "made an outstanding contribution to their local communities and neighbourhoods."

Speaking specifically about Mr Ferguson's work in his community, the association said the award was "for his commitment to Coastline’s customer activities."

Allister Young, chief executive officer of Coastline Housing, who presented the awards with chairman Derek Law, said: "We feel incredibly proud to work with so many great people in our local communities and to honour so many fantastic success stories. All of our award winners have worked incredibly hard and we look forward to hearing of their continuing success in the future.”
