Forget butterflies, there were "pigeons" fluttering in the stomachs of some of the stars of Ponsanooth's very first village pantomime.

After months of preparation and rehearsals, the cast of crew of Ponsanooth Community Theatre finally took to the stage with Aled Din's Lamp and were met with an enthusiastic reception from those who had been lucky enough to secure tickets.

There were two performances in Ponsanooth Hall, which were both sold out way in advance of curtain up leaving many residents disappointed at not being able to witness history in the making.

The theatre group was only formed last year, so the panto was their first offering. It provided a "steep learning curve" for all those involved in getting the production to the stage. It had been written and directed by Francesca Danu and was performed by a cast of locals.

There was nothing by praise for their efforts, with Usha James of the Stag Hunt pub saying: "Just have to thank everyone involved with the Ponsanooth panto, everyone in front and behind the scenes worked so hard to give us such an enjoyable show, you were amazing."

Ponsanooth Community Theatre is now appealing for "aspiring actors, creative spirits and lovers of theatre" to join the fun and "make some stage magic happen in your local community." Everyone is welcome regardless of age or experience. To find out more see the group's Facebook page.
