Several local businesses walked away with gold, silver or bronze awards from last week's South West Tourism Excellence Awards.

Entries into the awards were seven per cent up on the year before and winners were spread across the whole region from the Isles of Scilly and Cornwall to Dorset and Gloucestershire.

Gwel an Mor Resort at Portreath took the top gold prize in the Holiday Park of the Year category.

Silver awards went to Mylor Sailing School in the Access and Inclusivity category; Mullion Cove Luxury Harbour Apartments for Self Catering Holiday Provider of the Year; Visit Truro for Visitor Information Service of the Year and the Pandora Inn for Tourism Pub of the Year.

Steve Bellman who, with John Milan, has been at the helm of the Pandora Inn since 1999, said: "This is a terrific achievement for the team here at the Pandora as it shows how consistently high our standards are in all areas – food, drink, service and, most importantly, attracting tourists to Cornwall.

"The team here, lead by managers Catherine and Lester Croft, should be very proud of what they have achieved."

Bronze awards went to the National Maritime Museum Cornwall in Falmouth in the category for Artistic, Cultural and Learning Experience of the Year for its exhibition British Tattoo Art Revealed; and Mullion Cove Hotel for

Dog Friendly Business of the Year.
