A major new mixed use development scheme, which aims to accommodate the planned growth of student numbers on the Penryn campus while reducing demand on houses in multiple occupation (HMOs), has been announced.

The Parkengue Road site, on the northern part of the Kernick Industrial Estate adjoining the Penryn campus, is owned by three landowners who are joining forces to comprehensively plan the scheme.

Falmouth University, which owns part of the site, is working with other landowners Studytel and an institutional investor.

The proposals will include dedicated employment space, a large-scale co-working area, academic space and residential accommodation for up to 1,000 students.

It is claimed the scheme will bring economic benefits to Penryn through the retention of important employment space, significant job creation, increased business rates and student spend.

Details of the proposals will go on show at a series of public consultation events in March where members of the public will be able to meet the developers and representatives from the university to discuss the scheme. These dates will be announced in the coming weeks.
