A couple of young mums calling themselves The Dream Team are aiming to bring the community spirit back to the Old Hill estate and are hoping residents of all ages will get involved.

Leanne Salter, who lives on the estate, and Teleah Peacock, who lives in Penryn, but is desperate to move back to her childhood home, decided just before Christmas to join forces with the hope of bringing people together.

They launched a private Facebook page and were soon receiving messages of interest. They first started by helping the Salvation Army, but are now supporting the Beacon Community Regeneration Partnership (BCRP), which operates from the Beacon Resource Centre.

The partnership offers help, advice and holds its own community events for all those living in the Penwerris ward. It has lost the majority of its funding so its staff are working on a voluntary basis and is in desperate need for cash to keep it going.

Leanne and Teleah have now decided to encourage more people to use the centre and donate proceeds from its events to it.

"We need to keep this open and that's our aim," said mum-of-four, Teleah. "We also want to bring people back together and do something for the young people."

Last week the the Dream Team held two tea, cake and messy play sessions at the centre which were well attended by parents, grandparents and children from babies to teenagers. The first one raised £112 which has been donated to the BCRP.

"We want to do what we can to help the community and help the centre," said Leanne. "When the kids are at school we want to hold mothers' meetings where mums can meet up and see what the community can give them and what they can give back to the community.

"But it's also about getting everyone involved from pensioners, to mothers and fathers, children and babies. We don't think half the community knows what goes on in this building."

Teleah and Leanne have paid for Dream Team branded products, including pens and key rings, which they are selling, and will be supporting the BCRP's Easter egg hunt to be held in Kimberley Park on a date to be confirmed, by providing a dance squad, DJ and bouncy castle.

They are also planning a Dream Team family fun day at the Dracaena Centre on August 11.

Grenville Chappel, town mayor and volunteer project coordinator at the partnership, said of the Dream Team: "They represent the younger crowd and can get the young people in and that's what the Beacon Partnership needs - the younger crowd."

Anyone wanting to get involved with the Dream Team should search for Leanne Salter or Teleah Peacock on Facebook and leave them a message.
