Disadvantaged children from Penzance will be enjoying free respite breaks with CHICKS charity this year thanks to a donation of £4,000 from the Tesco Bags of Help Scheme.

The children’s charity provides free week-long breaks for disadvantaged children from across the UK, including hundreds from many areas of Cornwall. The children it supports come from a variety of backgrounds; many are living in poverty or are young carers, while others have been the victim of abuse or neglect.

Without CHICKS these children would have no other opportunity of a break away from their difficult home circumstances. At CHICKS, they are able to enjoy a variety of confidence-building activities, make new friends and create some truly wonderful childhood memories.

Mick Ryan, regional fundraiser at CHICKS, said, “We are extremely grateful to community champion Krista Stringer, the customers and all staff at both Tesco branches in Penzance who have helped fund respite breaks for children from their town.

"Many thanks also to Jan Phillips from Groundwork UK along with all community enablers for their support.”
