It will be no surprise to those who live here that Falmouth has been included in the Sunday Times' list of best places to live in the UK 2018.

The list takes into account statistics like house prices and the local economy, but is also decided by the judges' personal experience of the places.

They praised Falmouth's beaches and harbour, as well as its nightlife, art scene, food, and the expansion brought about by the university.

Beerwolf and Dolly's Tea Room were mentioned as places to have a drink, and Harbour Lights stood out to the judges as a better alternative to Rick Stein's, whilst Hooked on the Rocks by Swanpool beach was recommended for a more upmarket meal.

Emma Bastian, general manager of Hooked on the Rocks, said: "We are ecstatic to be mentioned along with a few other fantastic local businesses."

Judith Hann, The Poly's chief executive, said: "We are thrilled to be known as the art and culture hub for the town - we've been here since 1833 and are looking forward to being a key part of Falmouth's growth in the future."

When asked what she thought the best things in Falmouth were, Judith said: "The friendly town, the diverse range of things to do and, of course, the beautiful beaches!"

Dolly Makin, owner of Dolly's Tea Room, said she was "Over the moon to be mentioned and am so delighted that Falmouth is recognised as such a great place to live."

Pete Fraser, the owner of Harbour Lights, said: "Serving great fish and chips is one thing, but you can't underestimate the distinctive effect Falmouth has on our business.

"From the incredible views from the restaurant, the amazing options on our doorstep for alfresco dining if you choose to opt for takeaway. It just makes it taste better, I'm sure of it.

"We are also blessed with the most fantastic team who love serving the friendly and fascinating people who visit us, either for the first time, or as part of their weekly routine.

"Falmouth's diversity makes it a vibrant and interesting place run a customer facing business. You never really know who you might meet next."

Judges were also impressed with Falmouth's strong local economy, mentioning how the Pendennis Shipyard is a major supplier of superyachts, and that design and tech businesses are starting up in the town thanks to the high speed broadband.

Tehidy Terrace is apparently the best address in the town according to the judges, but they also said that "anything by the water" would do.
