Young runners in this year's Coose Trannack Cross County braved some of the coldest conditions ever experienced at the event.

Organisers of the popular cross country run, which takes place in the grounds around Trannack School near Helston and attracts competitors from all over Cornwall, praised entrants for their perseverance in difficult conditions.

Not only were temperatures close to freezing on Saturday morning but runners also had to contend with drizzle and a bitterly cold wind, along with a particularly muddy course.

A spokesperson for the event said: "Well done to all teams that entered this year. To complete the race in such conditions was testimony to your own hard work and self belief.

"The same message to each individual, no matter what position they came - a big well done for your efforts and determination to get around and complete the Coose Trannack course."

Helston Community College came first in the secondary schools, with Devoran topping the primary school list.
