A public exhibition will be held next week to discuss the proposals for new student accommodation on Parkengue Road, Kernick Industrial Estate.

The proposed building will sit on the northern strip of the site where Granite Planet currently is, next to the university's games academy.

This proposal is the second university accommodation building planned for the Kernick Industrial Estate, with developers hoping that another accommodation block will be built a few doors down on the opposite side of the games academy.

If both plans go ahead, the university will be able to accommodate around 1,000 students on the industrial estate, which they have claimed will reduce the number of students living in HMOs (houses of multiple occupation) in Falmouth and Penryn.

The Parkengue Road site is owned by three landowners, one of which is Falmouth University.

The university is working together with real estate investment company PGIM as well as developers Studytel.

Proposals for the site include accommodation for 395 students, as well as new employment space.

PGIM said that they: "[recognise] the importance of the Granite Planet Climbing Centre to the local community and assisting with its re-location, along with the existing businesses on the site, to suitable new premises locally is a key feature of our proposals."

They claim that: "The scheme will bring economic benefits to the local area through the retention of important employment space, significant job creation, increased business rates and student spend."

Details of the proposals will go on show at a public consultation event on Wednesday March 28 between 2pm and 7pm at Falmouth University’s games academy, 31 Parkengue, Kernick Road Industrial Estate, where members of the public will be able to meet the PGIM project team to discuss the scheme.
