A forecast of further rain combined with an already waterlogged course has led to the postponement of today's Easter Fun Run in Coverack.

Organisers took the decision yesterday evening to call off the run, which will now take place on Spring Bank Holiday.

Caroline Beadle, from the run's organising committee, said: "Due to the amount of rain forecast, on top of a very high water table, [the] Easter Fun Run will be postponed.

"The route had already been altered to avoid waterlogged and slippery areas but with more rain, conditions will not be safe to run."

She asked people to pass on the news to anyone they knew who had been planning to run, adding: "This decision was not taken lightly but safety needs to come first.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused and hope to welcome as many of you as possible back to Coverack for a fun run at the end of May."

Runners had been planning to assemble at Coverack School this afternoon, to run a one-mile or four-mile route.

Funds raised were to be split between the RNLI and the community group Coverack Space 2000.

The run will now take place on Monday, May 28 at the same time of 2pm, with all other details the same.
