SWANS' eggs at a Falmouth beauty spot have been stolen and damaged.

They were taken from a nesting site at Swanpool lake overnight and some were smashed on the nearby road, according to an eye witness.

Swans are protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 and anyone found acting otherwise than in accordance with the act may be liable to prosecution.

Falmouth police stress that there is no evidence to suggest the damage was caused by humans at this stage.

Animals such as a fox or badger could be responsible.

Falmouth Packet visited the scene this morning and located the swans' nesting area, but there was no obvious sign of damage or theft.

If anyone has any information relating to this incident they are asked to contact Falmouth police via 101 and quote log 238 of 08/04/18. 30699
