At 8.02pm the Fire Critical Control Centre received a call stating that a train power car was on fire in the platform at Penzance Railway Station.

Crews from Penzance and Hayle community fire stations were sent with an officer, but back up was quickly called for, with further crews from Penzance joining along with St Just, St Ives and Falmouth.

By 8.30pm "good progress" was being made, with two hose reel jets, two main jets and one safety jet in use, along with a thermal imaging camera.

At 10.27pm it was confirmed that the fire was in the train power car, which had been moved from the railway station to another location.

Crew remained at the scene checking for hotpots, but Great Western Railway confirmed that the station had reopened at 10.45pm and was operating as normal again.
