A SHOULDER barge outside a Falmouth hair salon in the middle of the afternoon led to a man suffering constant back pain and anxiety, a court has heard.

The perpetrator was given a community service order by Truro magistrates and ordered to pay a total of £435 for assault on Killigrew Street on January 10.

Liam Elmy, 24, of Parc An Tansys in Camborne, had been drinking and was leaving the salon at around 4pm when he saw a man walking towards him and shoulder barged him, causing him to fall over and injure his back.

The victim said: "Why did you do that?", to which Elmy replied: "Come on then, let's have it."

As a result of the injury, the man has had to turn down gardening and photography work that according to him would have been worth around £2,000.

Elmy pleaded guilty to the offence at magistrates court in Truro, and was made to pay a total of £435 including £85 court costs, £100 injury compensation, and £250 compensation for distress.

He was also given 100 hours of unpaid community service for committing the assault.
