MYLOR Sailing and Powerboat School has won silver at the annual VisitEngland Awards for Excellence, which celebrate the tourism industry.

The prestigious awards, now in their 29th year, recognise businesses and individuals who raise the bar of England’s tourism.

The school won silver in the Inclusive Tourism category, at a ceremony hosted by TV presenter Kirstie Allsopp in Bath on Monday.

Among the 21 categories were Afternoon Tea, Tourism Pub, Dog-Friendly Business and Visitor Information Provider.

The winners were selected from hundreds of submissions including accommodation businesses, attractions, food establishments and guided tour operators, spanning the length and breadth of England from Cornwall to Yorkshire.

VisitEngland Chief Executive Sally Balcombe said: “These awards shine a spotlight on our fantastic tourism industry with the winners showcasing the quality, innovation and excellence on offer throughout the country."

Three other Cornish businesses won awards, with Landal Gwel an Mor, near Portreath, taking gold in the Holiday Park/Holiday Village section and Polmanter Touring Park, St Ives, taking bronze.

The Screech Owl Sanctuary at Fraddon won bronze in the Small Visitor Attraction category. There were 21 sections in total.
