Tomorrow marks the arrival of May Day and with it the traditional procession of Helston Town Band around the town.

It is a celebration that always heralds great excitement for many residents, as it marks just one week to go until Flora Day on May 8.

As such, many people take the opportunity to get in a bit of dance practice ahead of the day, by following the band around the town as it plays the tune of the Flora Dance in an early morning and evening procession.

Following the success of last year, the evening route has been extended and there will be volunteer stewards helping halt traffic while it passes.

The procession will leave the Guildhall at 7am and again at 7pm. The route will take the band up Meneage Street to Meneage House and back again, before they head up Wendron Street, down Penrose Road into Church Street and along to Cross Street.

From here they will cut through to the Bowling Green and head up Coinagehall Street to finish back at the Guildhall.

The evening procession will also include Penhallez Hill, St Johns Road and Nettles Hill, with the whole route usually taking around an hour.

Everyone is encouraged to go and join in, either by watching the band pass by along the route or by joining in behind them to dance.
