Falmouth's beaches are likely to see a huge influx of visitors as the Met Office have predicted an especially sunny May bank holiday weekend, and we would love to see some photos of the heatwave from our readers.

Clear skies, high temperatures, and an increase in pollen levels are likely to sweep the country.

Luckily for beach goers, the heat wave will coincide with the RNLI heading to the beaches again to keep swimmers safe on Saturday May 5.

Temperatures could reach up to 17 degrees on Sunday and Monday according to the Met Office, with skies clearing after Saturday.

This temperature is well above the yearly average for the beginning of May, which normally sits at around 14 degrees celcius.

The Met Office have also published some advice and myth busting info about hayfever in advance of the high-pollen weekend. Did you know that a fish diet can reduce the symptoms of hayfever? And that opening your windows at night can actually make symptoms worse?

Francesca Brenca, Pharmacist at Lloyds Pharmacy, comments: “It’s remarkable how little is still known about hay fever, particularly as millions of people now suffer from pollen allergies in the UK. That said, we know that symptoms can be deeply unpleasant for sufferers once they begin. The Met Office’s pollen network and forecast is critical in helping us identify when increased pollen levels are going to occur, which in turn, helps us provide information to our customers that suffer from pollen allergies and ensure our stock of relevant tablets and other remedies are available to ease those symptoms.”

As well as the more well known symptoms of hayfever like a runny nose and watery eyes, it is now thought that pollen levels can also affect mood, increasing anxiety levels in people with recurrent mood disorders such as Bipolar.

Unfortunately for those affected by hayfever in Cornwall, pollen levels are higher in the countryside than in urban areas, although in cities pollen can mix with pollution making respiration problems even worse.
