NETBALLERS from the Penwith area travelled up to Bath University to have a coaching session with two international Team Bath players.

The students, who are all members of the Netball Academy at Penwith College with two students from Truro College also attending, travelled up to stay in Trowbridge before heading over to Bath University for a two-hour coaching session with South African Zanele Vimbela and England’s Commonweath Games gold medallist Kadeen Corbin, and a tour of the university.

During the tour, the students met with the sports faculty lecturer to discuss possible progression and courses offered by the university.

This wasn’t it for the students, however, as they were then able to watch Team Bath in action in a match against the Celtic Dragons – an amazing show of talent that ended with a victory for Team Bath.

Skylar Finch, one of the Netball Academy students, said: “It was an amazing and inspiring trip, with coaching from two world-class netballers.

"I even got to see (and try on) the gold commonwealth games medal, which made my day! I feel very privileged to have had this opportunity.”

Nadia Edyvean, the Netball Academy Coach at Penwith College, said: “It was such a fantastic opportunity for the students to be coached by international players, the coaches were fantastic and very approachable.

"After the session, they were able to ask Kadeen and Zanele questions gaining insight into the level of commitment required to compete at an elite level.

"A highlight for me, was the smiles across the students’ faces when they got to hold and wear a Commonwealth gold medal.”
