Falmouth Mayor Grenville Chappel returned for a third year in office at the mayor-making ceremony on Monday evening.

As part of the annual meeting in the council chamber, Mr Chappel appointed Tony Parker as his deputy.

In proposing Mr Chappel for a third term, councillor Roger Bonney said: "He's given excellent service to the community and he is people-friendly.

"He is a very good mayor and he has worked exceptionally hard. He's so caring to the people - what a wonderful man he is."

In his closing speech, Mr Chappel reflected on a successful year in which the library and roundabouts were now under control of the town council.

"We have a team of gardeners who do a marvellous job on our roundabouts - we are Cornwall, we are a holiday resort and we've got to look good when people visit."

He lamented the passing of councillor and former MP Candy Atherton, before congratulating 16-year-old police cadet Chelsea Heidstrom on her sterling service over the past two years.

His charity for the year will be the Kernow Young Carers.

This year he has raised more than £3,000 for Kernow First Aid, which provides cover for local events and is on duty every Saturday night in Falmouth.
