Chris Wood, the son of Sally Hicks-Wood, late founder of Falmouth’s legendary Pink Wig Events (pinkwigevents.org.uk), has teamed up with two friends to complete the challenging Prudential Ride 100 in London on July 29.

Sally died of breast cancer in May 2015, and Chris is continuing to champion Pink Wig Events, which raises money for The Breast Care Team at the Royal Cornwall Hospital, Truro and Breast Cancer Now, nationwide. To date it has raised £90k.

The 100 mile cycle ride will see 80,000 people cycle a 100 mile circuit, finishing on The Mall in central London. Chris, 34, and his friends, Stefan Churcher and Ryan Kitchener, both 32, are training at St Michael’s gym in Falmouth, supported by fitness instructor, Steve Owen, as well as putting in the miles on gruelling training rides across Cornwall.

“My reason for doing this is not only the challenge of completing the ride, but also to raise awareness of Breast Cancer, and the Breast Cancer Now Charity as well as The Pink Wig Events team,” says Chris. “Raising money isn’t as easy as people think. There are so many charities out there now, and every single person has their own reason for supporting them. That’s why I find it so humbling when I get a notification from my Just Giving account saying, ‘someone has donated to your page’.

“Every single time it makes the hairs on my neck stand up to think that somebody cares. To say I am grateful is the biggest understatement ever.”
